Meet Justine “JE” Mariott: The Paranormal Mystery Author Enchanting Readers Worldwide

Meet Justine “JE" Marriott, the internationally acclaimed author known for her captivating paranormal mysteries, supernatural thrillers, and magically enchanted tales. Originally from Lincolnshire in the UK, Justine made a life-changing move to Brockville, Ontario, Canada, in 2008, where she now lives as a full-time writer. Justine’s work includes three ongoing series: The Chameleon Sagas, Witch Books, and Magic, Tea & Witches. Her writing is renowned for its blend of historical, supernatural, and paranormal elements, all delivered with uniquely English humor.

But what led Justine from the rolling hills of Lincolnshire to a life steeped in magic and mystery on the other side of the Atlantic? Let's delve into her story and discover the journey behind the enchantment.

1. Can you tell us a little about yourself? What was your journey like before you became a writer?

Sure, I worked for the government in the UK as a specialist who'd be brought into various departments to restructure them to be more efficient. This means I worked in many places, including Social Services, a school, an ambulance training center, and an archive.

2. What inspired you to start writing witch fiction? Was there a specific moment or influence that set you on this path?

When I was working at a school, I noticed that there were no books for children who were brought up pagan, although lots of books existed for other belief systems. So, I began writing short stories to help children with the usual things all children go through, but from a pagan point of view. These stories eventually became The Witchlets of Witches Brew collection.

3. What themes or messages do you find yourself exploring most often in your work, and why do they resonate with you?

I realize I write a lot about honesty and doing the right thing in all my books. It’s not surprising since those are some of my pet peeves in the real world.

4. Can you share a fun or surprising fact about yourself that your readers might not know?

Lol sure, apart from being pagan from birth, I'm also afraid of the dark—yes, really! I think I've read too much horror and watched too many movies. I have nightmares of something coming for me in the dark and have even written a poem about it!

5. What’s your all-time favorite book, and why does it hold a special place in your heart?

Hmm... actually, I have two. Drinking Sapphire Wine by Tanith Lee was the first fantasy book I could really get into, and it opened up a whole new genre for me. The other is Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley—I just wanted to live on Avalon.

6. What book(s) are you currently reading?

I just finished Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros, which I totally loved, and now I’m reading Accidental Magic by Iris Beaglehole.

7. What are you working on right now? Can you give us a sneak peek into your current project?

As usual, I'm working on a couple of projects. The first is Emily and the Cup of L.O.V.E., which is book two of the Magic, Tea, and Witches series. It’s a cross between The Good Witch and Harry Potter. The other is Witch Ball, book three of the Witch Books series, which is like The Good Witch meets Mayfair Witches meets Salem. Also, in the background, I’m researching a brand new series of four books.

8. Where can fans go to learn more about you and follow your journey?
