Exploring The Mystical and Haunted Side of Texas: A Paranormal Road Trip

Recently, I embarked on a road trip through the Lone Star State with a long-time friend, and we uncovered some of its most mysterious and haunted places. First Stop: Grapevine, TX
Our adventure began locally in Grapevine, Texas, a charming town with a rich history. We visited the Grapevine Spring Winery, where we joined their 90 minute walking ghost tour. As we sipped on delicious wines, we learned about the winery's ghostly residents and the fascinating history of Grapevine. The tour guides shared spine-tingling tales of apparitions and unexplained phenomena, making for an unforgettable experience.
Second Stop: Burns Cemetery, Lee County, TX
Next, we made our way to Lee County, Texas, to visit Burns Cemetery. This small but historical site holds a handful of Civil War soldiers' graves and whole family plots of some of the area’s former residents. Walking among the tombstones, we felt a deep connection to the past and the lingering presence of those who once walked this land.
Third Stop: San Antonio, TX
San Antonio was our next destination, where we spent two nights immersed in its rich history and haunted locales. We started with the city’s five Spanish colonial missions, beginning with the largest and most intact, The Mission of San Jose, and ending with the legendary Alamo (https://www.nps.gov/saan/learn/historyculture). These historic sites provided a glimpse into the early days of Texas, with stories of bravery and conflict.
That evening, we ventured to The Sisters Grimm Parlour, a mystical and metaphysical shop located in the historic Menger Hotel. Here, we joined their nighttime ghost tour, delving into San Antonio’s haunted history. One of the most intriguing stories was about the Holiday Inn Express San Antonio – River Walk Hotel, located downtown in the remodeled 1878 Bexar County Jail building. This historic building once held notorious criminals and witnessed numerous executions, leaving behind restless spirits. The hotel, with its blend of modern amenities and historic charm, offers guests a unique stay amidst ghostly whispers and unexplained phenomena.
Final Stop: National Museum of Funeral History, Houston, TX
On our drive back home, we made one last stop at the National Museum of Funeral History in Houston, Texas. This unique museum offers a comprehensive look at the history of funerals and funeral customs from around the world. Exhibits include vintage hearses, coffins, and memorabilia, providing a fascinating and respectful insight into how different cultures honor their dead. The museum also explores the evolution of funeral practices, making it a must-visit for those interested in the macabre and historical.
